The Land of the Pecans

October 22, 2012

Family!! Ah. I love you all so much. Thank you for the long letters
this week. I look forward to reading them. :)

It is crazy that Bruce is now 21! And also pretty awesome that dad got
to drop off his package. ha.

Ha, that is crazy that you have had cold whistling wind there in
Rupert. It has been SO HOT here. It was 106 the other day. Ha. what is
Weston going to be for Halloween? I love seeing the few halloween
decorations that are here. And they have those sugar skulls everywhere
for Dia de los Muertos. Bien suave. I havent been taking many
pictures....sorry. I dont really have time. but I will take a picture
of Elder Ledezma and I and send it to you next week. I can just upload
them to this computer. THese computers are pretty nice. ANd yes, i can
get downloads on emails so i got those conversion tables.

So almost everyone here in Jimenez works in Labor. And by this, i mean
that they work in either the onions, the chiles, or the nuez. There is
SO MUCH NUEZ. We are up to our ears in it. And...i am ashamed to
announce that it took me until yesterday to realize that Nuez, is just
pecans. haha. But I am pretty sure that the worlds supply of pecans
comes from here in Jimenez. There are miles and miles of pecan farms.
It is pretty sweet. And everyone has their own pecan tree out in front
of their house. And you know the people who work in the nuez because
their hands are stained black (no i dont know why). But it is cool to
finally see where pecans come from.

So Mela, was only in the hospital for that one day, and then she was
supposed to just be bedridden for two weeks, but she was walking
around after 2 days. ANyways, we have been continuing teaching her,
but she is not going to be baptised on the 27 like she was supposed
to. Because she hasn{t come to church for the last 2 weeks. Also, she
went to the church during a relief society activity (good right?),
they were canning beans, and she told them that we sent her there
saying that she could get food. Which we didnt say. And now she is
also asking us, and members if they can pay her light bill. But she
isnt reading the book of mormon. Ah, we are trying so hard to help her
develop her own testimony so that she is coming for the right reasons.
Cause we love her, but we dont know if she is going to progress much
any time soon.

One of our most inredible investigators is named Hermano Arguello. His
daughter is a member. He used to be a priest...and a pastor...at one
point. Anyways, he reads SO MUCH of the book of mormon, and he uses
the footnotes, and he is mad that he doesnt have a doctrine and
covenants or pearl of great price because he wants to read those
references too. Haha. He basically directs every one of our lessons
(in an awesome way), and he also practically directs the Gospel
Principles class, and Elders quorum. Its wild. He has a baptismal date
for the 17th of November. Oh, and he also liked my talk.

OH HEY, i gave a 15 minute talk in sacrament meeting yesterday! I
talked on Families. And...I admit...i was crying pretty good for the
last 5 minutes of the talk. (sups embarrassing). Not because I´m
homesick, caus i´m not (dont think that means that i dont miss you,
cause i do), but just because i get so dang happy every time i bear my
testimony about being with all of you for eternity. Ah. I am so
grateful that I have you all for the rest of eternity. Thanks for that
mom and dad, it is one of the best gifts you have ever given me. I try
to tell people that i really am funny. But only in english, and when i
am with my family. Im still not funny in spanish. Its sad.

But Hermano Arguello is always saying that the speakers in sacrament
need to speak in a way that inspires the people to do something. And
my talk is the only one that he complimented. He says Elder Ledezma is
a bad public Speaker. haha. I will take the compliment.

Oh, i do not remember if I told you that Elder Ellis and I were
companions for a day! Yes, last saturday, ELder Ledezma had to go to
Camargo, to get to know the investigators of ELder ELlis who have
baptismal dates. So, Elder Ellis came here to Jimenez, and he and I,
two gringosfrom Idaho and Utah, taught my investigators with some good
ole Mexican dirt under our feet. It was so fun. haha. And we actually
teach pretty well together. Also, every time that Elder Hallsted has a
baptism in Parral, we have to go there to do the interview, and so I
get to hang out with ELder Hallsted and his companion for a while. It
is so funny, cause elder ledezma is interviewing the person, while us
three gringos sit in the street. haha. But it is fun to be with the
people from my own generation of missionaries. It is just nice to know
that other people are going through the exact same thing i am. Except
i am more blessed than they, because i have a washing machine and a
dryer. heh heh heh. Saves us hours on p'day. Love it.

Yesterday we were lacking 6 new investigators to meet our goal of 8
for the week. We only had 2, it was sad. OH, but that story is funny
too. Ill tell that one first.

So i ran out of deodorant last week, and i had to wait until pday to
buy more. Anywho, i found that deodorant that landon suggested, the
white old spice Fiji. I put it on. Got two more baptismal dates that
day, and two new investegators. Coincidence?

Anyways, so we were lacking 6 nuevos, so our whole day was planned on
finding new people. We got 4 new investigators yesterday. And the last
one was almost a miracle. Because we cant tract UNLESS the spirit
directs us, and it is near the house of a member). So we were tracting
by the spirit in the colony of several members, and we this this house
that didnt look as nice as the others. It had big piles of dirt in
front of it and everything. But i felt like we should knock on that
door too. We met a man named Gustavo, who has a wife and two beautiful
children. He was so surprised that we were talking to him. Because he
had seen missionaries around, and always wanted to talk to them, but
he thought that they only talked to certain people, and didnt knock on
doors. Anyways, he is super excited. He is almost an Escogido. But the
problem is that he works in Parral a lot. We shall see how things turn
out. But he is awesome.

I have high hopes for november. I wanna fill the font. Which we did
this week, but just for the daughter of the branch president. Not a
convert baptism, but still so grand.

Well, family, I love you all so much, and I look forward to reading
your letters. Stay awesome.

Love,

Elder Hansen
