Hey everyone! :)
It has been another great week at the mtc. I am always strugglin
with figuring out what to tell you all about, since every day is the
exact same here. It is Groundhog Day (the movie). My district was sad because
yesterday, I was the ONLY person in our district that got a letter. But
since we pick the mail up twice a day, the mailbox was completely empty
when i checked it at dinner. Poor guys.
I am so worried all day, trying to figure out how to help these
elders, but i don't need to be stressed out. Because i am so proud of my
district. The elders that have had problems, have realized it
themselves, and they talked to me about it when i asked them, and we are
all working on improving together. It is so great. It is crazy to think
that I have been here for one month, and i will still be here for
another month. Don't get me wrong, i love the MTC, but i am REALLY
excited to get out of here and get to Mexico.
Our teachers are amazing. They have helped me set up
private tutors for the elders that are struggling with spanish (if they
want one). My teachers, Hermano Defiguerido and Hermano Russell, are
probably some of the most incredible teachers in the mtc. They have
helped our little group of elders more than anyone else possibly could.
It is weird to think that they are both just a couple of years older
than me. They seem so much older. Because they are spiritual giants. I
hope i just exude the spirit in 2 years like they do. Hopefully i am
already starting to.
In other news, our old District leader, Elder Lambert,
left on tuesday, so now his companion, Elder Wesley Labar, is in a
threesome with Elder James Ellis and I. He has been such a great
addition to our companionship. First of all, because he has an
incredible sense of humor and helps to remind us that we are supposed to
laugh and have fun. And secondly, because he is such a great addition
to our lessons. He is one of the hardest workers in our district and he
really helps to invite the spirit into our lessons with our
investigators and to invite them to keep committments. Our lessons with
our investigators have been going amazing well this past week. Our last
two lessons with Antonio made me so happy. He said that we answered all
of his questions and resolved his concerns about persevering to the end
after baptism. We also had him come watch "another baptismal service
that we had that week" so he wasn't worried about baptism anymore. Jairo
is also improving, he is struggling to give up smoking, but he is
praying for help, and we are praying for him. I know he can do it. I
can't wait to have REAL investigators, because even these fake ones make
me so happy that I am here.
I love the scriptures. I know i say that every week,
but it is because every week, i love them a little bit more. It is
impossible to not love them. They are true, not a doubt in my mind.
Oh, i forgot to say that a few weeks ago, Elder Reid Pinther came
in. Then last week, Elder Kevin Jurgensmeier and Elder Keane Kleopfer
came in. As well as some of Abbie Harpers friends. Then this week Elder
Braden Harman came in. As well as three of my friends from BYU and one
kid from my efy group. It is exciting to see them all come in. Haha,
they all look so scared and confused on the first day. It is so funny.
Was i like that? Probably. haha.
For the Tuesday Devotional, Elder Neil L. Anderson
spoke. Ahhhhhh, It was AMAZING. I learned soo much. I think it helped
all of our district to become better missionaries. Like instantly. His
talk was about what 10 things the Prophet would say to us if he was
here. (It was Thomas S. Monson's Birthday this week too).
It is crazy how incredibly similar the story of Lehi is
in 1 Nephi 1, to the story of Joseph Smith. It is the exact same. And
it just goes to strengthen my testimony that Joseph Smith truly was a
prophet of God and that he did restore this, the fulness of the gospel
to the Earth. I am so grateful for him every day.
I love you all so much. I can't even express how much. I
cannot wait to live with you all for eternity. Thank you for the
support and the prayers.
Love,
Elder Romney Vaughn Hansen
