Within the Limits - August 26th, 2013 Letter

Dear Hansen Family,

Before the mission, i really thought that the hatred of dogs towards missionaries was just something they put in the movies to be funny. No. There really is something there. They HATE us. Walking down the street, the dogs don't do anything to other people, but they go crazy and try to kill us when we pass by. One time, a dog stuck its head out from the fence and bit my companions arm. And then i was to blame for the one that bit my hand. We weren't adjusted to eachother yet. And then ten minutes later, I was petting him. His name was Rupert (but really though). No stress, didn't tear the skin.

Friends, do not worry if i have not written you back, i have not forgotten about you. I treasure your letters. I just battle with time. It is my greatest enemy. I want to go to the Celestial Kingdom in part just because there the time wont be measured (Alma 40:8). But just know that i do read your emails, and i love them. I will write back when i can.

So last week i went to Centro de Chihuahua, and we saw some museums and we went to this market where they sell so much Chihuahueno stuff. I bought some souvenirs, now i just need to find out the next time someone in the ward is going to Utah.

So we had the coolest thing happen this week. Something that renewed my excitement. So we have been visiting this less active member named Alma for the last month or so. And we have been teaching her the lessons, and she has been coming to church! Well on Wednesday, we were not even close to her house, not even near the colony where she lives, but she pulled up next to us in her car, told us that she had been looking for us, because she has someone who wants to be baptized. that is a "YESSSSSSSS" moment for a missionary. I threw my two fists up the air. So we went Friday in the night, at 8, to her house (it is a big house), and he didn't show up until 8:45. So we got to know him for 10 minutes, talked a little bit about what we do, his name is Raymundo, invited him to church, and ran out of there. And then he came to church yesterday, and after church, we went and taught lesson one, and he loved it. He has a baptismal date to be baptized on the 14th of September. Pray for him. It will be really good for Alma as well, that we are teaching these things, because she thought that Joseph Smith wrote the book of Mormon... ehhh. That was awkward.

We also put another baptismal date on Saturday with Daniela, and 18 year old who want to be baptized more than anything, but has a huge fear of her family, because they don't support her much, but they are really just indifferent. So pray for her too.

We had more visits this last week then we have had in any other week for like the last 2 months. Lovin it.

Oh yea, and the BIGGEST NEWS of the day is.... I will be in the united states today. I leave in a couple of hours to the bus station with Elder Randall from my generation, who has been working here with me since Thursday, and we will go to El Paso Texas tonight, where we will spend the night, do some work on our visas, and then we will return to Chihuahua tomorrow. It will be nice to be on American soil for a few hours...even though I hear El Paso is just like Juarez, but a little cleaner. I wish i would have time to send you a package from there, but alas, it shall not be. But think of me tonight, and i will be much more closer to you. Within The Limits of our Pais. I might fill a little jar of liberty soil. Who knows. I will take pictures.

I love you all so much. You are all in my prayers, and my thoughts. Thank you so much for the ejemplos you have always given me. Miss you all. And i still can't believe that i will be seeing you all so soon. The mission is so short. I am giving my all to make the best of the months i have left. I hope you all baptize someone as well. Be the person that pulls up in the car next to the missionaries to tell them that you have someone who want to be baptized. Cause that actually happens. It is the Work of Salvation.

Welp, see ya later.

Love,

Elder Romney Hansen
