Hey sorry it is late, but i just barely
got the opportunity to write you. But how are you all?? I was so happy
to get all of your letters. You are all so amazing. I loved reading
them.
Well, i am in the grand old city of Chihuahua today.
But only for today. Tomorrow morning, i head back to Juarez. It is
funny, Chihuahua seems more like the United States than Juarez. And it
is 5 hours south of the border. Interesting eh. Well i am here because
Elder Monasterio, my Guatemalteco, has transfers. He will be staying
here in Chihuahua. Meanwhile, i also came to the mission office, to pick
up my brand new fresh greeny companion. :) That is right. I am now
training. Not gonna lie, i am scared out of my mind. But Elder Pantoja
is from Monterrey. He seems pretty dang cool. I will be taking over
Elder Monasterio's job as district leader, and i am freaking out for
that as well. Have know idea how i am going to train a bunch of elders
who have 15, 20, months, etc, in spanish, and help pump them up for the
work. But i know that whom the Lord calls, the Lord qualifies. I will go
and do the things which the lord hath commanded. So in the morning, i
start the 5 hour long ride back to Juarez. 10 hours on a bus in 2 days.
It is ridiculous. And tonight i sleep in the offices.
The mission presidentes daughter, Palmayra, has her
mission call to Arcadia, California, and leaves in April. Do we have
family in that mission?
Well, in good news,
even though we began to work so much more with the active members and
the less active or inactive members, the work has not slowed down. In
fact, contrary to my previous expectations, we had 5 investigators in
attendance yesterday. To make it better, 3 inactive families that we
started working with came to church as well. It was AWESOME. This last
week, we were reflecting on our goals and praying a lot. We decided that
we wanted to put four baptismal dates this last week. Guess how many we
put? Four. We also decided how many baptisms we want to have in
February. We decided that if we give it our all, and keep seeking the
personal revelation, we can accomplish 6 baptisms this next month. Well,
with luck, three of those will be this next weekend. The sister in AA,
Adela, has now stopped smoking, and has reflected a lot on her life, and
accepted a baptismal date, with her daughter, for the 2nd of February.
As well as another sister who came to church twice before we even began
teaching her, who is dating a less active member. We have been teaching
them together, and she wants to be baptized on the 2nd as well. Mayra,
the sister with her daughter in the wheelchair, couldn't come to church
on Sunday, because she had to go to the First Communion for a young girl
who has cancer, and she felt bad skipping out. But she has the most
powerful desire to keep learning. Our last lesson was just her crying
for 40 minutes. My tears may have been shed as well. Shucks. But she
accepted a baptismal date for the 9th of February. Her husband is a
little bit more difficult, still no, but her example will go a long way
with time. I am really excited that i am still in Chapultepec 2, to keep
working with these wonderful people.
The church is true. On the bus i was studying Moses
1, and i was impressed with the way the chapter applies to the
revelations we have been receiving through our mission president and
general authorities. Also, studied D y C 68. Pretty grand. Put
"missionaries" for "fathers" and "less actives" for "Children" in verse
25. Heavy right. Also check out DyC 88:73. The lord is hastening His
work. It is so true.
Well, i have got to go. Love you all. Have a great week.
Love,
Elder Hansen
