It was great receiving all of your
letters! I love that so many of you write me each week. It makes me
happy. (Don't think that just because others are writing, you don't need
to. I truly do appreciate every single one. :)
In Juarez news, the police stopped elder Monasterio
and i last monday. We were headed to our house after the last lesson.
And they just pulled up in front of us. And began asking questions. "who
are are? what do you do? where are you going? Where do you live?" And
we were like, "We are missionaries. We baptise all of the police who ask
us what we do. we are headed home. we live on the Aztecas by the
Extra." And with that, they left. And they didn't want a book of mormon.
shame.
On Tuesday, we put a baptismal date with another
Alma. she is actually Alma Hija, the daughter of Hermana Alma whom we
baptised last week. And she will be baptised this weekend. on the 19th.
Along with the husband of Hermana Alma, Francisco. but we are not as
sure about him. He says he has to receive an answer, and we havent had
time to explain to him how to receive an answer. Lots of work to do.
Wednesday was difficult. We couldn't find anyone. we
didn't have a single lesson until 7 p.m. Frustrated but Happy. Plus the
members who had signed up to feed us forgot, so they just took us to
S-Mart, and dropped us off there with 50 pesos. It is on the edge of our
area, and we had to walk like crazy to get to the next visit, which
wasnt there anyways. Things like this actually happen more than i let
on. I just focus on the cool stuff. Cause the mission is so so so hard.
But the good parts, and the blessings, easily make the difficulties
worth it.
On thursday, we ate HAMBURGERS. Ha. The sister with
whom we eat on thursdays makes the best food. And she made these
hamburgers with bacon, ham, hamburger, hot dog, grilled onions, and the
works. Two of em. Huge. I couldn't walk afterwords. And then some people
hid in their houses, even though we could easily see them. And then we
said good bye and pretended to walk away, and they came to the door. So
we said Hey again. And they turned around and ran back into the house. I
like to say that they are "Escondidos" not "Escogidos."
On friday, we put 3 more baptismal dates for a
family that we met on Christmas. The Montes Family. Sister montes has a
very rebellious, and wild past. She knows that she needs to change. but
she is grand. She came to church with her daughter yesterday. Which was
awesome. And we had a total of 6 investigators in assistence. with the
Rivera family there (the family we just baptised) the chapel fills up
quick. They take up a whole row. a solid 14 people. Some we reactivated,
some we baptised, and some we are about to baptise. we gave them a
picture of the baptism, with our contact information on the back, which
has my name included in my email address, and now they say that they are
naming the next baby Romney, and i dont think they are joking.
And saturday was spent inviting people to churchy.
On sunday there were 104 people in assistence. The most there has been
in a long time. Since the ward split into two wards. So hopefully the
members get more animated and excited. There could easily be 200.
I dont know if you all read the letter I forwarded
you from President Angulo, or the online Christmas card? But in that
letter, it says that we now get to wake up at 6;30. i am loving the
extra 30 minutes. Hallelujah.
well, i love you all so muchy. ALso i just realized
that i said "assistence" several times in this letter. I do mean
"attendance." But i am too lazy to go back and change it. Also, my
hands are numb because it is so cold here in the internet cafe. And it
hurts my fingers to type. Therefore, signing out.
With all of love in the world, and Amor Por Juarez.
Elder Romney Vaughn Hansen
